Missed your annual French pilgrimage this year thanks to the virus? Well fear not! We have good news. Glorious Game who produce wild game into ready meals can transport you there, in taste at least, with its award winning Rillettes*. All you need is a toasted baguette, a glass of Sancerre and you can pretend, whilst reminiscing about your past “vacances”.
According to the Great Taste Award judges “This is a treat – a well-made preserve of full flavoured pheasant, carefully shredded and seasoned with an interesting combination of herbs, plus juniper and gin, to add a distinctive final flourish. The texture was excellent, not at all greasy, but with plenty of body. It spread well on toast, and was well-balanced, with the seasoning, herbs and gin enhancing the taste of the bird”.
A passionate game cook, Sophie Bagley launched Glorious Game in 2018 with the aim of encouraging more people to eat game. To make it easy for us, she’s launched a range of convenience foods that we Brits are familiar with (including Bolognese, Pheas-agna, goujons and Chilli Con Pheasi); perfect to help time-pressed people to pull together a nutritious family meal with ease.
There are many reasons to eat game, including :
- It’s healthy – pheasant is lower in fat & cholesterol and higher in protein than chicken;
- It tastes great (see above!);
- It’s free range & sustainable;
In doing so you’re supporting rural communities and the rural economy (74,000 jobs).
